Marquee & At Home Wedding Photography in Surrey

Some of my favourite Surrey weddings happen at home. A marquee on the lawn, a barn in the orchard, a meadow mown specially for the day. There’s no venue coordinator running the schedule and no house style to work around, just a space that means something to you, dressed exactly the way you want it.

Why I Love a Marquee Wedding

One of my favourite weddings this year took place on a family farm, in a marquee the couple had decorated themselves, with flowers arranged by a friend. Their dogs ran about all afternoon, nobody fussed over the small details, and everyone simply enjoyed the day. That’s the energy I love, and it’s exactly what a marquee or at home wedding gives you room for.

You get to build the day around what matters to you rather than a venue’s set package, whether that’s family land, a borrowed field, or a garden that has already hosted three generations of parties. I love photographing all of it.

Whatever the Weather Does

A marquee wedding means the weather becomes part of the plan rather than a threat to it. I’ve photographed full days of heavy rain and come away with images couples love every bit as much as the sunny ones. When it pours, we use it. Soft light through canvas, footprints across wet grass, a couple sheltering under one umbrella. These often become some of the most honest photographs of the day, not a backup plan.

I always build in time to dash outside during a lull, because some of the best photos happen in the gaps between showers.

It rained all day, but this did not phase her. We got some lovely photos inside and an incredible photo taken outside in the rain. We had no idea that anything like this was possible. The photos that Mercedes takes aren’t run of the mill wedding photos, they are clever and creative, making excellent use of light, focus, anything and anyone to hand. Our day was captured so well, the photos really tell the story of our day, and her attention to detail is exceptional.

Marquee & At Home Wedding FAQs

Do you have a plan if it rains on the day?

Yes, and it doesn’t need to change your plans. A marquee gives us shelter for portraits and candids alike, and I love working with rain rather than around it. Ask me about the wedding I once wore wellies to, it’s one of my favourites.

Do we need a separate legal ceremony?

Most marquees aren’t licensed for legal ceremonies (but this looks like it’s going to be changing soon – it’s currently being discussed). Many couples opt for a church service on the day. And you could always have a small registry office signing beforehand and then a blessing or symbolic ceremony under the marquee itself. I’m happy to photograph either part, or both.

How far will you travel for an at home or marquee wedding?

I usually stay within about two hours of home, though I’m always happy to talk through anything further, especially if it’s a wedding I love the sound of.

Do you bring a second photographer?

A second photographer is available for an additional fee. My second photographers are always an experienced professional, it’s your wedding and we don’t want anything to go wrong.

What does wedding photography cost?

My wedding photography is ÂŁ1,800 for 10 hours of coverage, with a minimum of 500 photos delivered. You’ll get 10 to 20 sneak peeks within 72 hours, and your full gallery within 4 to 6 weeks. A second photographer is ÂŁ350.
