What to wear for your Spring family photo shoot

Spring is a wonderful time to take family photos, with blossom, daffodils, bluebells and other Spring flowers blooming, and the weather warming up. But what to wear for your spring family photo shoot can be a bit overwhelming. You want to look stylish and comfortable. Here are my top tips to help you choose the perfect outfits for your spring family photo shoot.

Choose a colour scheme

The first step in selecting your outfits is to choose a colour scheme. You want to coordinate your outfits without matching. Start by choosing a base colour, such as navy blue or cream, and then add in up to two complementary colours, such as soft pink, mint green, or light grey. You can also mix and match patterns and textures within your colour scheme, such as a floral dress or a striped shirt. However it is best to avoid bold motifs, because this will distract from your faces.

Accessorise

Accessories can really help make a picture; whether it’s some jewellery, a great hat or funky shoes. These items will elevate a photograph from good to great and they show your personality and individuality. And accessories don’t have to be something that you wear – I had one very musical family who brought their instruments with them and we had great fun not just creating photographs but also making music!

Dress for the weather

I will double check with you before our session together in case of inclement weather. We can postpone if it’s going to pour, unless of course you want an umbrellas and wellies shoot. Layers are great because you can add & subtract items for a different look. Always bring a coat or jumper to keep warm in-between shots.

And finally…

Wear something comfortable

Yes it’s important to coordinate your outfits for a family photo shoot, but even more important is to stay true to your personal style. Don’t wear something just because it’s trendy if it’s not your style. You want to feel comfortable and confident in your outfit so that you can enjoy the photo shoot and create beautiful memories. Believe me it will show in your photos if the clothes are making you fidget and feel uncomfortable.

In conclusion, choosing what to wear for your spring family photo shoot is all about coordination, comfort, and personal style. By following these tips, you can create outfits that look great in photos and reflect your family’s unique personality. Remember, the most important thing is to have fun and enjoy the experience with your loved ones!
