If you’re choosing between wedding venues in Berkshire, Herons Farm deserves a serious look. This farmhouse venue near Reading has quickly become one of my favourite places to photograph a wedding, and after shooting a spring wedding there, I wanted to share exactly why it works so well. Here are five reasons to consider Herons Farm for your big day.
1. The Willow Room Sets the Tone From the Start
Getting ready is often where the nerves and excitement really kick in, and Herons Farm gives you a beautiful space for it. The upstairs Willow Room is light, calm and full of character, which makes it easy to capture natural, relaxed photos before anyone’s even thought about walking down the aisle. Because the room feels so personal, the morning photos end up telling their own part of the story rather than feeling like an afterthought.
2. 5 Different Ceremony Settings available
There are so many options for your ceremony at Herons Farm. My favourite is on the lawn under the pavilion, especially when the with wisteria is flowering. It’s genuinely one of the prettiest ceremony backdrops I’ve photographed. Even outside of wisteria season, the courtyard wall adds texture and warmth that you just don’t get with a plain marquee or a hotel function room.
3. The Main Barn Brings Everyone Together
Once the ceremony’s done, the main barn takes over for the wedding breakfast and evening party. It has that relaxed, rustic feel that suits a farm wedding perfectly, while still giving you plenty of room to bring your own styling and personality into the space. Whether you’re going for fairy lights and long tables or something bolder, the barn adapts well to however you want the evening to feel.
4. The Gallops Are a Photographer’s Dream
This is the part of Herons Farm I always look forward to. The Gallops is a stretch of countryside on the venue, lined with wooden fences and full of long grass and cow parsley. It gives us the space and privacy to get some real, unposed couple photos away from your guests, just the two of you and the Berkshire countryside. Honestly, it’s one of the best spots I’ve photographed a couple in.
5. Countryside Setting, Close to Reading
Herons Farm gives you that proper countryside wedding feel while still being easy for your guests to get to, sitting close to Reading in Berkshire. You get the peace and privacy of a rural farm venue without asking your guests to travel to the middle of nowhere, which makes it a practical choice as well as a beautiful one.
