Really important questions to ask when choosing your wedding venue

One of the most pivotal decisions for your wedding will be the venue. Both it’s availability and the decor and space will be major factors in the overall look and feel of your wedding day.

Often when we’re little, we imagine that we will get married in a meringue-of-a-dress to a prince in a fairytale castle. Generally by the time that it comes to it we’ve changed our minds! For some this will be an easy decision; you will know exactly the vision that you have in your head. And for others you may need to spend a considerable amount of time weighing up the different options, and of those there are many…

Nowadays there is so much choice: that castle that I just mentioned, stately homes, barns, marquees, village halls, tipis, cinemas, caves, museums and the list goes on. Not only that but are you going to have your ceremony at the venue and if not how far away will it be from your reception?

So say you thrash it out with your partner and decide on which venues to go and visit, here are some of the questions that you need to ask:

Will we have exclusive use on the day? If not how many other events are being held and how will this work?

Are there venue packages and prices? And What is included in the package? Usually you will be able to get discounts for midweek and low season weddings.

Payment; including deposits and cancellation terms

Do they have a licence for indoor and outdoor civil ceremonies?

How many guests can we have? Both for the wedding breakfast and for the evening?

Can we use any vendors that we want or do we have to choose from a recommended list?

Will we have a dedicated wedding co-ordinator?

Can we go anywhere on site or are there any restrictions?

What options are there for getting ready and accommodation?

Although these may not seem very romantic, you want the day to run smoothly and it’s better to know all of the facts beforehand to help you make that important decision.
